A woman from Connecticut allegedly kept the stepdaughter for 20 years: the police describe the conditions

Firefighters found a stepson at the Waterbury house on February 17, when he responded to a fire. The 32-year-old “was found in a seriously emaciated state”, and the detectives determined that he had survived “prolonged abuse, hunger, serious neglect and inhuman treatment,” the police said.

A man who has 5 feet 9 weighed only 68 pounds when the authorities found him, in accordance with the statement divided by the local partner CBS WFSB, and confirmed by the Waterbury lawyer in the Waterbury Court District. He told officers that Sullivan was held by Sullivan since he was 11 years old, and began fire in his room on the second floor, using a lighter, disinfecting manual disinfected and paper, because “I wanted my freedom”, he added the statement.

Sullivan’s lawyer, Ioannis Kaloidis, said to Washington Post, that his client “maintains her innocence and expects the possibility of cleaning her name.”

“Kimberly Sullivan is alleged innocent until he is found guilty in court. Although the allegations are serious, they are simply allegations – the statement added.

A statement from the Waterbury Police Department, which contains some disturbing details, said that the stepson was found in extremely poor condition, with his “very dirty” and matted hair, and all his teeth seem rotten. The police claim that they do not identify a stepdaughter because he is an alleged victim of abuse, including the use of children.

The stepson told officers that he began to be locked in his room at the age of 3, when his family caught him slipping out of the room at night for food and water, because he was hungry, he gave a statement. He remembered that he had to drink water from the toilet, because he only received about two cups of water a day, said the statement.

At this point, he was locked up in his room in the evenings, but he was withdrawn from school in the fourth grade, when the school contacted the department of children and families, after noticing that he seemed always hungry, asking others for food, stealing food and sometimes eating garbage, he said, according to oath. DCF visited his home twice, states a statement during which Sullivan instructed him to say that everything was fine.

After Sullivan pulled him out of school, “his routine on weekdays and captivity became brutally consistent for the rest of his life,” says the statement. He said that he was initially locked in the room, and later, in a space of 8 on 9 feet, where the authorities found him, and was released only for short moments for the performance of duties, he gave the statement. Policemen examining the house found a castle and signs of previous locks, on the door consistent with the descriptions of the stepson. Investigators described a room in which it was stored as more “storage space”, which had no heat in winter and air conditioning in the summer.

“It was worse than the conditions of the prison cell,” said Spagnolo, head of the police on Thursday.

The stepson said that he was not allowed to take a bath or use the toilet, and developed a system in which he urinated in empty bottles that sailed out the window, and is defecated in the newspaper, about which he got rid of when he was released when he was released to household chores, she added a statement. Keeping him from escaping or seeking help, Sullivan would threaten him with less food and longer blockades, he states a statement.

The stepson said that his father and two half his sisters were aware of his treatment, although they did not participate in him, the statement, adding that while his father lived, he sometimes released his son from the room to watch TV with him when Sullivan took his sisters to events. His father, who died in January 2024, suffered from a number of health problems and was a user of a wheelchair, as the police said, and his biological mother was not involved in his life from 2.

After his father’s death, the stepson estimated that he had spent 22 to 24 hours a day locked in space and said that after waiving two sandwiches a day and two small bottles of water.

When investigators asked him if he was Hungry, he replied: “All day, every day, all my life,” said the statement. After admission to the hospital, medical staff documented that he had a body mass index 11 – seriously malnourished – And he was diagnosed with post -traumatic stress disorder, depression and cachexia, the destruction syndrome often observed in patients with cancer, according to the statement.

DCF, asked to comment on the case and previous interactions of the department with his family, said early on Thursday that he received an inquiry and was working on the answer. During the Thursday press conference, Spagnolo said that DCF asked to carry out a police inspection in April 2005, but the officers found no reason to worry.

The police were called home later in the same month, because the family wanted to lodge complaints about harassment against members of the school district for “apparently notifying them to DCF”, added Spagnolo. The employees of the last school, to which the stepson participated, also contacted various agencies in 2005, asking them to check it, a statement is found.

Spagnolo said that although the investigation is still ongoing, it seems that Sullivan was acting alone. Sullivan is kept in a bail of USD 300,000.
