The coroner identifies a man killed in Monkes Corner Train vs.

Moncks Corner, SC (WCSC) – Berkeley’s Coroner identified the Moncks Corner man who died on Wednesday evening when his vehicle collided with the train.

William Jeffrey Foster, 59 years old, died at the crash site, said Koroner Darnell Hartwell.

The first respondents were first notified that the Amtrak train and vehicle collided at 19:20 at the railway crossing to Altman Street.

The MONCKS Corner Fire Brigade, Monkes Corner Rural, Berkeley County EMD, Amtrak, CXS, Department of Prep Emergency Berkeley and the office of sheriff of Berkeley Fountains responded to the scene.

The first respondents found two people in the vehicle, including Foster, who was driving the vehicle.

Hartwell said that firefighters pulled the other person out of the vehicle, and EMS transported that person to the hospital in the area, where he was mentioned in a critical condition from Wednesday evening.

Bobby Gass, head of the Fire Brigade of Monks, said that the crews arrived within five to six minutes of the accident.

CSX examines the accident and SCDOT has helped secure the area.

The train traveled from Florence to North Charleston.

Gass said that this area is to be closed until Thursday morning and will probably be closed for a day or two.

The school district of Berkeley provided buses for transporting passengers away from the scene.

Berkeley’s Coroner’s Office has not yet published the name of the victim.

Police Monkes Corner said that they were working on getting a film from a disaster and talking to anyone who could be a witness. Everyone who has information is asked to contact the police at 843-719-7917.
