Christopher McCormack: The convicted revolverist in anticipation of lung transplant

Christopher McCormack, (65), pleaded guilty, before Limerick Circuit Criminal Court to assault Craig McMahon (33), causing the damage

Christopher McCormack, (65), Lenihan Avenue, Prospect, Limerick, pleaded guilty, before Limerick Circuit Criminal Court, to the assault on Craig McMahon, (33), causing that the schedule of Gerry Powers Pub, William Street, Limerick, on 25 August 2019.

In 2004, McCormack received a suspended three -year sentence after admitting that he shot David Noonan, apart from his home address, at Byrne Avenue, Prospect, June 19, 2000.

McCormack also shot and hurt another man of Derek Hayes, and also shot and killed Billy Power’s third man in the same incident.

DPP did not support any allegations against McCormack in relation to Mr. Power and Hayes.

McCormack told Gardai that he protects himself and his family when three men called his home armed with a knife, stick and hammer. McCormack also thought that men were armed with a pistol.

McCormack told Gardai that three men went to his home, looking for their son Damian and that they said they would kill him.

McCormack said that men were threatened and that he fired in them from his legal shotgun, and said Gardai: “I have to protect my family, I did what I have to.”

In relation to the assault in the Gerry Power pub in 2019, McCormack told Gardai that he had hit Craig McMahon in the face several times.

In 2022, another man, Paul Mason (57), Maple Court, Kennedy Park, received a fully suspended two -year sentence after he confessed to Mr. McMahon’s hit during the same attack.

Mr. McMahon also maintained stab wounds in the chest and neck, but Gardai said that they could not determine who was responsible for causing these injuries and no weapons were recovered.

A lawyer, John O’Sullivan, told the court that immediately after the assault Mr. McMahon “stumbled from the Gerry Power pub and fell on William Street.”

“At William Street at William Street, a blood trail took place, which led to the Gerry Power bar.”

“He (Mr. McMahon) suffered a disputed wound in the left front wall and abdominal neck, he was prescribed antibiotics and decided not to issue a statement about the influence of the victim on the court.”

O’Sullivan said that many people who were in the pub at the time of the attack “refused to say” Gardai, Bar One Man, who identified McCormack and Mason as attackers – but this man “turned out to be very difficult to locate later,” said Mr. O’Sullivan.

O’Sullivan said that Mr. McMahon made a short statement of Gardai, but “he did not identify his attackers, even though they were known to him.”

O’Sullivan said that the state was satisfied with the guilty allegation of McCormack, because it would be a difficult matter to the trial due to “difficulties securing the participation of several civil witnesses. In this Mr. McMahon … For some time it looked like we would have Hamlet without a prince, so it was the most welcome request. “

The court heard that McCormack had serious health problems and requires lung transplantation.

Father five years sat in court in a nasal mask of the face attached to the oxygen tank.

McCormacka’s lawyer Eimear Carey asked the court for them to prison McCormack and told the court: “He apologizes for his actions, he regrets that he was involved in a nasty incident.”

“He is a different man than then, he works all his life, has complex medical needs,” added Carey.

The imposition of a fully suspended two -year -old judge of the Colin Daly prison sentence said that the earlier conviction of McCormack for the shooting in 2000 was an important and burdening factor, but said it was 19 years before the assault, McCormack should not experience a significant loss of alleviation.
