The egal start of FNB Schools MTB League – Allgemeine Zeitung

The FNB Schools Mountain Bike (MTB) league began an exciting start on Saturday on the IJG trails in Windhoek.

This is due to three successful events in the Coastal League, which took place in January and February. The league is still focusing on developing cycling as sport in the country, and many best cyclists in the country began as an aspiring young mountain bikers.

The day was satisfied with many experienced school riders, as well as new participants in all age categories with over 100 riders from over 25 schools in Windhoek.

While some riders were absent because of their participation in Town Cycle Tour Cape Tour, the races still showed impressive attendance.

The race began with boys and girls U14, U16 and U18. Roger Surén (boys U18), Micah Chase (boys from U14) and Qara Volschenk (girls U14) have recently won their age categories in the cross-country of the South Africa Cup in Paarl in West Cape and continued their winning lanes at this event.

Due to the fact that she is a family double, Nicole Surén won U16 girls, and Julius Braun took the U16 and Rose-Marie Thiel boys event at the U18 girls’ party.

Thinking about the race, Chase commented: “The track was super funny, more technical, taking into account the last rains that washed some corners and created more rocky, curly track features.”

The excitement lasted with U12 and U6 races, in which young competitors faced an unexpected phrase – a horse on the track during the first lap! An unexpected meeting added an adventure, forcing them to turn around and ask for help, which ensures a classic impressions of driving on Namibian trails.

In general, the morning of races was a huge success, against the background of the beautifully green and lush windhoek Bushveld.

About the league

The FNB Schools Mountain Bike (MTB) league is a proven successful initiative to promote cycling among students, encouraging them to participate in mountain cycling in a supporting environment.

The dates of subsequent events at IJG Trials are April 26, 13/13 July, August 9 and the national final on August 30. There are also events in Swakopmund (May 3) and Stampriet (July 26).

The league focuses on the design of tracks available and pleasant to riders with different levels of skill, ensuring that experience is encouraging, not intimidating.

The league still serves as a key platform for young cyclists to develop their skills, gain confidence and compete at a high level. With subsequent races, the MTB SKOOLS SKOOLS league remains involved in nurturing the next generation of Namibian cyclists, inspiring future masters one race at once.
