The Indian Western city of Pune is fighting the growing cases of Guillain-Barré (GBS), with at least 111 identified cases in the last three weeks, local media announced on Tuesday.

The 41-year-old accountant was identified as the first victim of the explosion on Monday, the day after the man’s death because of a rare but treated infection.

What do we know about the case?

The Minister of Health of the State of Prakash Abitkar said that the illness of the deceased was “confirmed by GBS” in a briefing led by Times of India AND Hindustan Times. Seventeen more patients were to support their lives.

“GBS is not an infectious disease. This disease happens when the person’s immunity is weak, “he said among growing problems due to the growing number of cases. India testified to the highest number of deaths related to Covid around the world.

“Our first priority is to control the growth of the number of patients”, he saw how he told reporters in social media movies.

Meanwhile, the State Health Department emphasized that he was prepared to implement preventive measures and control, saying that “citizens should not panic.”

The Central Indian Ministry of Health has deployed a seven -member team of experts in Pune City to help manage cases.

Experts suspect that cases can be caused by contaminated water. Local media reported that local government bodies are conducting samples and surveys.

What is GBS?

The World Health Organization describes GBS as “a rare condition in which a person’s immune system attacks peripheral nerves.”

The disease can affect anyone, but it occurs more often in adults and men.

While the ability to treat the disease can result in almost total paralysis, breathing problems and even death in severe cases.

Although the cause of the disease is also not fully understood, most cases follow a viral or bacterial infection, according to WHO.
