Lincoln police officer attacked during arrest in city center

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A Lincoln Police officer was attacked while arresting a man downtown early Sunday morning.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., an officer patrolling the area of ​​14th and P streets observed a disturbance between several groups of people outside Raising Cane’s Restaurant.

Groups reported an assault involving 21-year-old Jecory Harris when an officer approached.

Police said that when they tried to talk to Harris, he refused to obey multiple commands and resisted arrest. Police allege that after he was taken to a police car, he brutally kicked him in the leg and then punched the officer in the side of the face, nose and cheek.

Harris was taken to the Lancaster County Jail on charges of third-degree assault on an officer, resisting arrest, disturbing the peace and obstructing a peace officer.

During the investigation, police determined that a 22-year-old man was involved in the disturbance before officers arrived. He was charged and released for disturbing the peace by fighting.
