An army soldier, identified as sepoy Pangala Kartheek, was killed in an exchange of fire with terrorists at their hideout in Gujjarpatti Zaloora area of ​​Sopore on Monday.

An army soldier, identified as sepoy Pangala Kartheek, was killed in an exchange of fire with terrorists at their hideout in Gujjarpatti Zaloora area of ​​Sopore on Monday. The army, police and CRPF extended searches in the forests but failed to trace the terrorists.

Kashmir’s Inspector General of Police (IGP) Vidhi Kumar Birdhi told reporters that the operation in Zaloora forests was called off last evening.

“Operation (Sopore), launched on the basis of specific intelligence, involved busting a militant hideout. During the exchange of fire, the jawan soldier sustained serious injuries and was later martyred. The operation is over.”

The Army had earlier in a post on soldier.

Drone footage of the slain soldier has been circulating on social media, leading to a police advisory advising people not to share such videos as they could “threaten national security”.

“It has been reported that some people are spreading/sharing sensitive details regarding the Gujjarpati/Zaloora incident without considering the consequences of such activism. Everyone is directed to desist from such irresponsible practices threatening the security of the state,” Sopore police wrote on the X-handle.
