Humiliation for 22-year-old Chicago influencer after her lies about mom and pop business exposed

A Chicago influencer was spectacularly exposed as a liar after she tried to destroy a mom and pop restaurant with false claims.

Julia Reel, 22, had six of seven claims against the Hubbard Inn in the Windy City dismissed by a judge this week.

The ruling clearly stated that she lied about being kicked out of the company by a security guard during her March visit.

An influencer who tried to ruin the business with another entry will still be able to claim that she was injured by the bouncer.

A video released by the Hubbard Inn disputes Reel’s claims that she was raped and forced out of the restaurant and that a bouncer led her off the property without touching her.

Reel sued the Hubbard Inn, seeking compensation for alleged injuries, including a concussion and significant bruising, which she claimed she suffered during the confrontation.

The restaurant then sued Reel for defamation and claimed that its TikTok video led to losses of over $30,000.

In a statement following the ruling, the Hubbard Inn said it was “pleased that the court sided with us in rejecting Ms. Reel’s meritless claims.”

“After months of slander on social media, we are grateful that the court recognized most of the claims for what they are – nonsense.”

TikToker Julia Reel claimed in a video earlier this year that she was “cut” and pushed down the stairs of Chicago’s Hubbard Inn during a night out, and the restaurant responded with surveillance footage of the actual situation unfolding

Although Reel deleted her allegations about TikTok, Hubbard Inn shared its own viral reaction to her video, which has received over 9.9 million views.

In response to the video, the restaurant showed excerpts of Reel’s claims and surveillance footage of her encounter with the bouncer, starting with her claims that she was “dragged” from the bathroom.

Although Reel claimed that a security guard grabbed her and her friend before she was “given a chance to leave on her own,” surveillance showed the bouncer walked next to her without touching her.

“This man immediately grabs me, and he grabs my arm, pushes me, abuses me, and what happens?” Reel claims he claims on his TikTok.

The Hubbard Inn signed recordings confirming that the claim was a lie: “Below is footage of Ms. Reel being safely escorted from the bathroom hallway to the exit stairs.”

Reel then escalated her allegations, claiming that the bouncer pushed her down the restaurant steps and “threw me up in the air.”

Surveillance footage of the stairwell shows Reel and her friend walking down the stairs, never being pushed, while a bouncer guides them to the main exit using a flashlight.

After showing corroborating surveillance footage, the Hubbard Inn provided Reel with a description of the so-called “incident.”

“It was the craziest experience I have ever been a part of,” she said. “The way it escalated was completely and utterly absurd.”

Although the video showed Reel and her friend leaving the front door, the TikToker argued through her lawyers that the restaurant’s surveillance did not capture the entire interaction.

The Hubbard Inn said Reel’s TikTok prompted a wave of negative reviews and hateful messages directed at staff.

In the original lawsuit, Reel accused the restaurant and the unnamed bouncer of battery, infliction of emotional distress, defamation and false light, she reports Chicago Sun Times.

On Wednesday, Cook County Judge Patrick Sherlock dismissed six of the seven claims but allowed one count of restaurant battery to proceed.

Sherlock rejected some claims because the bouncer was not named and others because there was a lack of evidence to support Reel’s allegations.

The judge wrote: “(Reel) failed to present any allegations that would lead to a finding that the bouncer’s conduct was extreme and outrageous for which (Hubbard Inn) could be held liable.”

“In no event did (Hubbard Inn) insult or call (Reel) a liar, as (Reel) maintains. Further, while (Reel’s) (Hubbard Inn) claims arose from actual malice, the statements made by (Hubbard Inn) do not establish malicious intent, but rather constitute a remedy for harm (Hubbard Inn) suffered as a result of (Reel’s) original TikTok video.’

The ruling also allowed Hubbard Inn’s own defamation lawsuit against Reel to continue.

In her post-sentence statement, Reel said through her lawyer: “We are very pleased that the Court has allowed the claim to proceed, including the uncontested claim for harm to Ms Reel.

“We are also pleased that the Court’s rulings provide an opportunity to reconsider some other claims now or in the future.

“As we all anticipated, this will be a long and difficult process that will invariably end. Mrs. Reel is primed and ready to battle the Hubbard Inn.
